History and Development
3 Hong Kong is a leading mobile service provider in Hong Kong offering advanced voice, data and roaming services under the "3" brand via its 5G, 4G LTE, 3G and GSM dual-band networks. 3 Hong Kong is the mobile division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215), which is a group member of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited (stock code: 1).

We were granted a licence to operate an AMPS cellular radio telephone network in 1984 and commenced the provision of analogue mobile telecommunications services in 1985. We launched a GSM service in 1995 and went on to become the first operator in Hong Kong to offer 3G service in 2004. We partnered with Apple to be the first operator in Greater China to launch the iPhone™ 3G in July 2008. 3 Hong Kong launched 4G service in 2012. and achieved full MTR coverage in 2013. We activated the VoLTE capability in 2014 and was one of the first operators in Asia to launch VoWiFi service in 2015.

We launched 4.5G service in 2016 and completed the construction of an end-to-end NB-IoT network the following year. In 2018, we upgraded the existing network architecture and completed 5G outdoor network trials in the 3.5 GHz and 28 GHz bands. We were the first to make a live outdoor broadcast via a 5G network in Hong Kong. At midnight of 1 April 2020, we officially launched 5G service.

We also benefit from extensive relationships with handset vendors, as well as applications and service providers. This helps us to lead the industry through consumer-friendly mobile applications, innovative offerings, advanced mobile devices and diversified corporate solutions.

3 Hong Kong is flourishing into a digital operator ideally prepared for the era of 5G mobile broadband. We play a prominent role in developing a new economy ecosystem by serving consumer and corporate customers from a diversity of capabilities in fields such as the Internet-of-Things (IoT) concept and 5G technology.

We offer 5G, 4G LTE, 3G and GSM dual-band mobile telecommunications services, thereby enriching our already-diverse mobile data-centric portfolio with an ultra high-speed and low-latency high definition multimedia platform.

3 Hong Kong's efforts are channeled into constantly enhancing the overall customer experience with innovative mobile data services and applications to meet with ever-changing technology and market trends. Popular services and applications include Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms, direct carrier billing offerings, mobile device security management, eBooks, music downloads, movies-on-demand, mobile social networking applications and FinTech. We also develop business and corporate solutions covering mobile business, information technology, AR/VR, Internet of Things and big data.

We also provide customers with easy-to-use services while they are overseas, such as an extensive roaming facility throughout various countries and regions, thanks to partnerships with top-tier international operators and membership of a mobile alliance. This allows customers to enjoy value-for-money roaming via our flat-rate roaming daily pass.
